May 16 — Secular Student Alliance 2021 Conference (Virtual Event)

 

FFRF Legal Director Rebecca Markert and Associate Counsel Elizabeth Cavell will present a timely discussion titled, " 'On the Basis of Sex:' Civil Rights after Bostock v. Clayton County" On Sunday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. (PDT) at the virtual Secular Student Alliance Conference.  The presentation will cover the legal background of the case, what it means for religious liberty, namely religious exemptions to the Civil Rights Act, and how that impacts civil rights moving forward particularly for transgender rights, and, of course, crucial to any discussion of civil rights progress moving forward is the issue of the make-up of the federal courts. 

The 2021 SSA conference is a multi-day virtual conference with live-streaming and on-demand video for students and the larger secular community. May 16 — Phoenix, Arizona (Virtual Event)

 

Hosted by the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix (HSGP), FFRF's Director of Strategic Response, Andrew Seidel will discuss Christian Nationalism, its role in the January 6 insurrection, and his acclaimed book, The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism Is Un-American via Zoom on Sunday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. (MST) . Andrew will delve into the threat Christian nationalism poses to our secular nation, something he's been warning and writing about for many years, and focus on how to defeat the Christian nationalist identity. May 11-16 — Conference on Religious Trauma 2021 (Virtual Event)

FFRF co-presidents Annie Laurie Gaylor and Dan Barker will appear at the inaugural Conference on Religious Trauma on Wednesday, May 12, from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. CST. The Conference on Religious Trauma is intended to educate therapists and lay persons about religious trauma syndrome and connecting survivors of religious trauma with qualified therapists and resources to aid in recovery. Dan, a co-founder of The Clergy Project which provides support for religious leaders who "lose faith in faith" will discuss his personal journey from evangelical preacher to atheist activist, along with his many books. Annie Laurie, who co-founded the Freedom From Religion Foundation along with her mother, Anne Nicol Gaylor, will discuss her book Betrayal of Trust: Clergy Abuse of Children, which was the first book documenting widespread sexual abuse by clergy. FFRF Staff Attorney Sam Grover and Legal Fellow Joseph McDonald will discuss the many intersections between freethought and public health. They will answer a variety of questions, including: How will the Catholic takeover of America's hospitals affect access to care? How should a freethinker plan for end-of-life decision-making? May 6 — Secular Day of Reason “Mayday for Humanity” (Virtual Event)

 

Join a host of secular organizations to celebrate The National Day of Reason with the "Mayday for Humanity" Zoom event on Thursday, May 6, 2021 beginning at 4:00 PM PST/7:00 PM EST. Comedians Leighann Lord and Ian Harris will co-host this 3-hour event featuring comedians, poets, and musical performers. The National Day of Reason is the non-religious answer to the National Day of Prayer. As the religious community prays, nontheist communities across the country roll up their sleeves and get to work in support of the 2021 Secular Week of Action (April 30 - May 9). The Mayday for Humanity event provides the opportunity to participate virtually by collecting online donations to benefit shelters and food banks that serve communities in a non-discriminatory and secular manner and includes an online auction which is now open for bidding

April 11 — The Atheist Experience (Live webcast)

 

FFRF's Director of Strategic Response Andrew Seidel will join Matt Dillahunty on The Atheist Experience a live, weekly call-in show on Sunday, April 11 at 4:30 p.m. CDT. The Atheist Experience, produced by the Atheist Community of Austin, is a webcast that encourages theists and atheists alike to call in to discuss the existence of God and related topics. Calls from theists are usually given priority, as the aim of the webcast is to encourage theists to question their theistic beliefs. The show is broadcast live on YouTube.

 

 

April 6 — Coffee & Conversation with Andrew Seidel (Virtual Event)

 

Join us on Tuesday, April 6 at 10 a.m. central time to participate in FFRF's new virtual event, "Coffee & Conversation." FFRF's resident expert on Christian nationalism, Andrew Seidel, will have a discussion about the Capitol attack three months ago, and the role that Christian nationalism played. Q&A will follow. March 21 — FFRF East Tennessee Chapter (Virtual Event)

FFRF co-president Dan Barker will appear at a virtual meeting hosted by the East Tennessee Chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and East Tennessee Rationalists on Sunday, March 21, at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). The topic of the discussion will center around Dan's book Free Will Explained, and FFRF's current efforts to defend the Establishment Clause. Q&A will follow. Email the chapter here

FFRF co-president Dan Barker will appear at a virtual meeting hosted by Sunday Assembly Nashville on Sunday, March 14, at 10:30 am Central. Dan will discuss his colorful journey from evangelical preacher to atheist activist, along with his many books. December 19 — Louisville, Kentucky (Virtual Event)

FFRF Senior Counsel Patrick Elliott will speak at a virtual event Saturday, December 19 at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Hosted by FFRF Kentucky Chapter, Patrick will discuss his experience overseeing litigation for FFRF focusing on First Amendment matters including religion in public schools, religious displays, and free speech violations. He has worked to resolve hundreds of state/church violations across the country.

November 1 — Lake Superior Freethinkers (Virtual Event)

Hosted by the Lake Superior Freethinkers chapter of FFRF, Staff Attorney and Strategic Response Attorney Ryan Jayne will speak on Sunday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. CST (donā€™t forget to set your clocks back!). Ryan will focus on current court challenges and some of the Freedom From Religion Foundation's recent efforts in defending the Establishment Clause, and also dive into 2020 Minnesota legislation pertaining to religious intrusion into public policy. He will also give a refresher on historical legal challenges to the Establishment Clause, and a glimpse into likely challenges in the near future.
