Help Keep Freethought Radio on the Air!

(MADISON, WIS.) Freethought Radio, the only weekly freethought radio broadcast in the nation, has been airing on the local Air America affiliate in Madison, Wis., Progressive Talk The Mic 92.1, for more than half a year.

That broadcast (which in turn is podcast and archived at ffrf.org) will cease at the end of the year, due to a decision by a local Clear Channel executive to convert Progressive Talk into a Fox all-sports station. (Talk about adding insult to injury!)

While the Foundation is making plans to continue Freethought Radio as a podcast and is looking into options to broadcast elsewhere, this decision needs to be loudly protested. When Air America was yanked from a Phoenix station, its listeners reorganized and got Air America back on the air by buying out a Christian radio station. Please sign the petition below (whether you live in the Madison area or not). It takes less than a minute:

It would also be helpful to phone the Progressive Hotline at 608/ 663-7291 to express your dismay at the decision, and your support for Freethought Radio.

"What is unique about our show is the chance to reach a mass audience, to educate the general public, as the only weekly nontheistic broadcast in the nation. It's a truism that you can turn on the TV or radio 24/7 and be preached at. Podcasting offers some consolation when programming is censored from the airwaves, but it's time for freethought to be part of the mass media," said Annie Laurie Gaylor, who co-hosts Freethought Radio with Dan Barker, administrators of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

This week's show features an interview with Roman Catholic priest-turned-atheist, Tom Reed (Saturday, Nov. 18) and next week's show will feature atheist and stemcell activist Ron Reagan (Saturday, Nov. 25). The hour show airs at 8 a.m. CST, streams live and is later podcast. For more information, visit:
