A radio ad recorded by Ron Reagan promoting the Freedom From Religion Foundation has been running all this month on the Randi Rhodes radio show.
In the ad, Reagan says:
Iām Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and Iām alarmed by the intrusions of religion into our secular government. Thatās why Iām asking you to join the Freedom From Religion Foundation ā the nationās largest and most effective organization of atheists and agnostics, working to keep state and church separate. Phone 1-800-335-4021 or visit the Freedom From Religion Foundation at FFRF.ORG Ron Reagan, lifelong atheist, not afraid of burning in hell.
Famously asked by The New York Times three weeks after President Reagan died whether heād like to be president, Ron replied: āIām unelectable. Iām an atheist. As well all know, that I something people wonāt accept.ā Reagan stopped going to church at age 12. In 2004, he accepted FFRFās Emperor Has No Clothes Award for making known his dissent from religion. He spoke at FFRFās 2009 convention, and is an honorary director.
Reagan spoke about the importance of embryonic stem cell research at the 2004 Democratic National Convention: āIt does not follow that the theology of a few should be allowed to forestall the health and well-being of the many.ā
āWeāre so grateful to Ron Reagan for recording this commercial for FFRF, and for being willing to speak out publicly as an atheist for so many years,ā said FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor.
