Coaches Reigned In on Prayer at N.C. High School (December 20, 2013)

After a complaint by, coaches at South Central High School in Winterville, N.C., received a lesson from the school principal on the Constitution. On Nov. 27, 2013, FFRF Staff Attorney Patrick Elliott wrote to the Pitt County School District about reports of coach-led prayers at football, soccer, baseball, and basketball games.

On Dec. 20, FFRF received assurances from the school districtā€™s attorney that the school principal had met with all coaches and notified them of the restrictions on prayer at school-sponsored events. The school district also agreed that biblical verses would not be placed on athletic shirts, which one team had done in the past.
