The Freedom From Religion Foundation has placed messages warning “Resist Christian nationalism” on two billboards in its hometown in time for its 46th annual national convention taking place in Madison Oct. 13–14.
The billboards are strategically placed to greet out-of-town attendees as they commute between Dane County Airport and the downtown venue. Incomers can spy one at the end of Demetral Park, near Pennsylvania Avenue on East Johnson Street. Those driving back to the airport can’t miss the prominent board on East Johnson Street and Fordem Avenue (pictured above).
The two-day FFRF 2023 National Convention will take place Friday, Oct. 13, and Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wis. The convention will not only showcase FFRF activism but will place special emphasis this year on the threats of white Christian nationalism and to abortion rights. It will include “Godless Gospel” entertainment and cameos by two drag queens. The speakers include many prominent activists, authors and commentators.
“We’re looking forward to being with hundreds of individuals at this celebratory event who care deeply about protecting the principle of separation between state and church,” says Annie Laurie Gaylor, FFRF co-president, “and to recharge our batteries to confront the growing Christian nationalist threat to our democracy.”
