December 19 — Louisville, Kentucky (Virtual Event)

FFRF Senior Counsel Patrick Elliott will speak at a virtual event Saturday, December 19 at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Hosted by FFRF Kentucky Chapter, Patrick will discuss his experience overseeing litigation for FFRF focusing on First Amendment matters including religion in public schools, religious displays, and free speech violations. He has worked to resolve hundreds of state/church violations across the country.

November 1 — Lake Superior Freethinkers (Virtual Event)

Hosted by the Lake Superior Freethinkers chapter of FFRF, Staff Attorney and Strategic Response Attorney Ryan Jayne will speak on Sunday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. CST (don’t forget to set your clocks back!). Ryan will focus on current court challenges and some of the Freedom From Religion Foundation's recent efforts in defending the Establishment Clause, and also dive into 2020 Minnesota legislation pertaining to religious intrusion into public policy. He will also give a refresher on historical legal challenges to the Establishment Clause, and a glimpse into likely challenges in the near future. November 1 — Secular Day of the Dead (Virtual Event)

 

The traditional Day of the Dead celebration for 2020 is taking on a decidedly nonreligious atmosphere this year! Due to the current COVID-19 health crisis, the 2020 Secular Day of the Event/Dia de los Muertos event is being offered as an online event beginning at 2:45 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, November 1, 2020.

FFRF co-president Dan Barker's dedication, "Adios a dios" will be available in both English and Spanish, and Annie Laurie Gaylor will share a remembrance of her mother and FFRF principal founder Anne Nicol GaylorThe Honoring Ceremony will open with dedications from actor Jon Huertas, writer Sasha Sagan, sculptor Zenos Frudakis, author Fernando Alcántar, and John Davidson. Participants are encouraged to share a photograph or portraits of a deceased loved one during the Honoring Ceremony portion of the event. Prizes will be awarded for best decore and costume. A Spanish speaker's Zoom room will be available with a mirrored schedule. See full details at ftsociety.org. October 21 — What’s Next at the Supreme Court? (Virtual Event)

 

Join FFRF Senior Counsel Patrick Elliott along with CFI’s Nick Little and AA’s Geoffrey Blackwell for a panel discussion about the most important upcoming Supreme Court cases for atheists. They will examine cases impacting First Amendment rights and the separation of religion and government. This free virtual event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21  at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and will be followed by time for Q&A. Register here in advance.

October 20 — Bringing Politics to the Pulpit (Virtual Event)

Join FFRF Director of Strategic Response Andrew Seidel as he discusses the importance of the Johnson Amendment which limits the participation of tax-exempt organizations (such as churches) in the political arena.  Andrew will be joined by Mike Bates, former chairman of the Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations, to debate the importance of limiting religious intrusion into government on Tuesday, October 20  at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Bringing Politics to the Pulpit is hosted by the Religious Freedom Commission in partnership with the Central Florida Freethought Community. Presented by Black Nonbelievers of DC, FFRF Director of Strategic Response, Andrew L. Seidel is pleased to join the Legacy: The Story of Dissent Throughout the Years virtual speaker series. Andrew will discuss American Christian nationalism and his acclaimed book, The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American on Saturday, October 10 at 11:30 a.m. (EDT). FFRF Director of Strategic Response, Andrew L. Seidel, will discuss his acclaimed book, The Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American on Saturday, October 10 at 3:00 p.m. (EDT). Hosted by the Freethought Society, this virtual event will dig into the false claim that America was founded as a Christian nation, and will be followed by time for Q&A. Blasphemy

You are invited to watch FFRF's weekly "Ask an Atheist" program, available on Facebook Live! at noon Central, this Wednesday, Sept. 2. This week, we will discuss why blasphemy is a victimless crime with special remote guest Leo Igwe. Leo is a secular humanist activist and academic from Nigeria, and he will join us to talk about the detention and disappearance of Nigerian atheist Mubarak Bala, and the dangers of widespread blasphemy laws.
