State legislator talks on FFRF TV show about his secular advocacy

Watch the teaser here.

A resolutely secular high-ranking legislator explains on the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s television show how he is defending our founding ideals.

Oklahoma state Rep. Mickey Dollens has served in the Legislature since 2016, where he is now House Minority Whip. Dolan is the author of the new book, “The Citizen’s Guide to Political Change: How to Win with Ballot Initiatives and Defend Direct Democracy.” Oklahoma Democratic Veterans declared Dollens the 2019 Legislator of the Year. Dollens participated earlier this fall in the second annual panel of secular state legislators that FFRF organized at its recent national convention in Denver.

“Everyone who is in that Capitol, voting on bills and passing laws, all took the same oath of office when they were elected,” Dollens emphasizes to “Freethought Matters” co-hosts FFRF Co-Presidents Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor. “And that is to obey the state’s Constitution and our U.S. Constitution. It specifically says in Oklahoma’s Constitution under Article 2, Section 5 that no public funds shall ever be appropriated to benefit any church religion, priest, preacher. It’s as clear as can be.”

“Freethought Matters” now airs in:

If you don’t live in any of the marquee towns where the show broadcasts on Sunday, you can already catch the interview on FFRF’s YouTube channel. New shows go up every Thursday.

Upcoming guests include former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold. You can catch interviews from earlier this fall and from previous seasons here, including with Gloria Steinem, Ron Reagan, author John Irving, actor John “Q” de Lancie and award-winning columnist Katha Pollitt.

Please tune in to “Freethought Matters” . . . because freethought matters. And spread the word to freethinking friends, family or colleagues about a TV show, finally, that is dedicated to providing programming for freethinkers — your antidote to religion on Sunday morning!

P.S. Please tune in or record according to the times given above regardless of what is listed in your TV guide (it may be listed simply as “paid programming” or even be misidentified). To set up an automatic weekly recording, try taping manually by time or channel.
