One of the most distinguished senators of recent times warns on the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s television show how our Constitution is potentially in danger.
Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold has written a book “The Constitution in Jeopardy: An Unprecedented Effort to Rewrite Our Fundamental Law and What We Can Do About It.” Co-authored with attorney Peter Prindiville, his book warns about the dangers of a constitutional convention under a little-known provision in Article 5 of the Constitution. Russ Feingold served nearly two decades in the U.S. Senate representing the state of Wisconsin and was the only senator to vote no on the Patriot Act. He’s now president of the American Constitution Society. He’s a recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile In Courage Award, and author of the bestselling book, “While America Sleeps.”
“They would make it clear that there is no separation of church and state, and use language to that effect,” Feingold tells “Freethought Matters” co-hosts FFRF Co-Presidents Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor about what would likely happen at a constitutional convention. “This movement is not only heavily infused with right-wing money, but heavily infused with pro-gun money, heavily infused with Christian nationalism money.”
