Sparkling Godless Gospel concert is year-end FFRF TV special

A group of people on a stage singing into microphones

“Freethought Matters,” the weekly TV show produced by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, will end the year with a joyous celebration featuring a vibrant concert by Godless Gospel.

The exuberant group, featuring some leading Black freethinkers — who happen to be great musicians too — performs five uplifting secular gospel songs written by FFRF Co-President Dan Barker and Andre Forbes. Barker, a former evangelical minister, came out of a musical tradition and has written several freethinking songs in the style of gospel. Forbes, now an atheist, was formerly a gospel producer. Choir members include Black Nonbelievers President Mandisa Thomas and well-known jazz singer Tahira Clayton.

Song selections include “The Natural World” and “Let’s All Give Thanks,” which concludes with the lines: “Let’s all give thanks, where thanks is due/ Not to religion, not to a god / But to the people who’ve made the world a better place/ For me and you.”

You can already catch the concert on FFRF’s YouTube channel. New shows go up every Thursday. Please share with friends and colleagues who would appreciate it.

FFRF regrets it must  downsize broadcasting due to rising costs. (A reminder to our Phoenix viewers this year: Due to a sudden and unannounced change in stations and ownership, the program will not air there this Sunday or next year.) Remember, all shows are available on FFRF’s YouTube channel.

You can catch interviews from past seasons here, including recent ones with Gloria Steinem, Ron Reagan, “Daily Show” co-creator Lizz Winstead, author John Irving, actor John “Q” de Lancie and award-winning columnist Katha Pollitt. Past interviews include Julia Sweeney and Reps. Jared Huffman, Jamie Raskin, Hank Johnson and Eleanor Holmes Norton, among many other notable authors, activists, musicians, actors and freethinkers.

Please tune in to “Freethought Matters” . . . because freethought matters.

P.S. Please tune in or record according to the times given above regardless of what is listed in your TV guide (it may be listed simply as “paid programming” or even be misidentified). To set up an automatic weekly recording, try taping manually by time or channel. And spread the word to freethinking friends, family or colleagues about a TV show, finally, that is dedicated to providing programming for freethinkers — your antidote to religion on Sunday morning!
