After a complaint by, coaches at South Central High School in Winterville, N.C., received a lesson from the school principal on the Constitution. On Nov. 27, 2013, FFRF Staff Attorney Patrick Elliott wrote to the Pitt County School District about reports of coach-led prayers at football, soccer, baseball, and basketball games.
On Dec. 20, FFRF received assurances from the school district’s attorney that the school principal had met with all coaches and notified them of the restrictions on prayer at school-sponsored events. The school district also agreed that biblical verses would not be placed on athletic shirts, which one team had done in the past.
