Update: Ten “out of the closet” freethought billboards go up in Tulsa

Below is a map and locations of billboards going up in Tulsa this week as part of the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s “Out of the Closet” campaign employing Tulsa-area friendly neighborhood atheists and agnostics.

FFRF, a national group based in Madison, Wis., working with its Tulsa chapter, has leased ten billboards, each picturing a different FFRF member or family, a “freethought testimonial” and identification.

Says FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor: “We’re sure there are many Tulsa residents who have never knowingly met an atheist or agnostic. This campaign aims to dispel myths and dissipate stigma against this minority — a growing percentage of the U.S. population at 14-16%. We are proud to introduce FFRF members and freethinkers to the community. Freethinkers are your friends, neighbors, relatives, colleagues, the person who opens the door for you at your grocery store, a parent at your playground.

“Nonbelievers have a lot of offer because if there is any hope of a paradise, we know we must work to achieve it here on earth,” Gaylor added.
