California Humanists Free From Religion


Pictured at left at a Pacific Grove restaurant are Ken and Anne Helms of the Humanist Association of the Monterey Bay Area (HAMBA), who organized and hosted a 3-city tour for Foundation co-president Dan Barker (seated at right) in early February. Ken, HAMBA Program Chair, is a former Methodist/Unitarian minister, and Anne, the daughter of photographer Ansel Adams, is a retired businesswoman.

Leon Stutzman (center) is a physical therapist and barber-shop-quartet bass, and next to him is HAMBA President Mark Folsom. Beside Dan is FFRF Life Member Harriett Mitteldorf of Pebble Beach.

Dan spoke about "Losing Faith in Faith" and Foundation activities, and sang freethought songs for humanists in Carmel (, Sacramento ( and Palo Alto (
