A humanist activist from Ghana who has placed the first atheist billboard in Africa is this week’s lively guest on “Freethought Matters,” the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s weekly TV show.
Roslyn Mould, co-founder and president of Accra Atheists, is also a prominent figure in the global humanist movement, holding leadership roles in various humanist and LGBTQ-plus organizations. FFRF partnered with Accra Atheists to help subsidize the billboard, which will be up for one year and says: “Don’t believe in God? You’re not alone.” This powerful message is the first of its kind in Africa, inspiring hope and unity among nonbelievers.
“Thanks to FFRF, we were able to put up this billboard,” she told show hosts Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor. “And it’s just a dream come true for a lot of us.” Mould discusses the challenges of being public as an atheist in Ghana and how she hopes the billboard will help change perceptions: “When we have this shroud of secrecy when it comes to atheism, it even enables people to think very negatively of us.”
