An ex-member of Congress talks on the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s TV show about her time in office defending secularism and the separation of state and church.
The guest this week is former U.S. Rep. Susan Wild, who was a member of the Congressional Freethought Caucus during her years in the House. Susan Wild represented Pennsylvania’s 7th District, which encompasses Allentown and its environs. Wild is headlining this year’s Reason Reception on April 29, which is put on by our various secular groups for members of Congress and their staff.
“People are welcome to participate in whatever religion they care to,” Wild tells “Freethought Matters” co-hosts Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor. “That’s expressly guaranteed by the Constitution — and I respect that. But no one should feel as though they have to practice a certain religion or that they have to practice religion at all. And I have felt that for a very, very long time, probably since my teen years.”
