Atheism in Africa is the subject of the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s Sunday television show.
Africa’s largest and most active atheist group is Atheists In Kenya — promoting freedom of thought and speech and advocating for the rights of nonbelievers. It has also won a significant lawsuit against government censorship. The guest on “Freethought Matters” is Harrison Mumia, the courageous founder and president of Atheists in Kenya. Mumia is a digital marketing specialist with a degree in computer science and spends most of his free time as a volunteer advocating for atheism in a country drenched with religion.
“Being an atheist in Kenya is not easy at all,” Mumia tells “Freethought Matters” co-hosts Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor. “The thing which we are seeing is this idea that there is something wrong with us not believing in God.”
Alas, the number of stations broadcasting “Freethought Matters” has reduced this year due to budgetary constraints. If you don’t live in any of the marquee towns where the show broadcasts on Sunday, you can already catch the interview on FFRF’s YouTube channel. New shows go up every Thursday.
“Freethought Matters” now airs in:
- Chicago, WPWR-CW (Ch. 50), Sundays at 9 a.m.
- Los Angeles, KCOP-MY (Ch. 13), Sundays at 8:30 a.m.
- Madison, Wis., WISC-TV (Ch. 3), Sundays at 11 p.m.
