The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s ad featuring Ron Reagan, self-described as “an unabashed atheist, not afraid of burning in hell,” will begin airing again on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” next week.
The spirited spot will air four times a week Monday through Thursday starting Jan. 21 until Jan. 30, on the highly rated cable show (9 p.m. Eastern).
FFRF will also run Reagan’s endorsement on 18 regional markets on CBS’ “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (11:35 p.m. Eastern) Monday through Wednesday during the end of January and beginning of February (Jan. 28-Feb. 10). This includes Colbert’s live broadcast Tuesday night, Jan. 29, following President Trump’s scheduled State of the Union Address (the timing of which now is up in the air).
The Reagan ad, which the national CBS network refuses to run, will broadcast regionally on CBS-affiliated stations not owned by the corporation in the following markets: Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Charlotte, N.C., Columbus, Ohio, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Madison, Wis., Milwaukee, Nashville, Tenn., Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Ore., Salt Lake City, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Fla., and Washington, D.C.
FFRF’s Reagan commercial says:
Hi, I’m Ron Reagan, an unabashed atheist, and I’m alarmed by the intrusion of religion into our secular government. That’s why I’m asking you to support the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the nation’s largest and most effective association of atheists and agnostics, working to keep state and church separate, just like our Founding Fathers intended. Please support the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Ron Reagan, lifelong atheist, not afraid of burning in hell.
Additionally, FFRF is debuting a new endorsement by FFRF Honorary President Steven Pinker on the same “Late Show” markets Monday, Jan. 21 to Wednesday, Jan. 23. The distinguished Harvard professor is FFRF’s honorary president and the best-selling author of many science classics. His newest book is Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress, recently released in paperback.
“We’re very grateful to Steve Pinker and Ron Reagan for lending their prestige in the cause of FFRF, freethought and the constitutional principle of separation between religion and government,” says Dan Barker, FFRF co-president.
