FFRF honors Bill of Rights Day in whimsical NY Times ad

The Freedom From Religion Foundation is placing a whimsical ad with an urgent message in the Sunday New York Times, in honor of Bill of Rights Day — the anniversary of its Dec. 15, 1791, ratification. The full-page ad will appear in the main news section.

The colorful ad, headlined “Joy to the World . . . A Bill of Rights is born,” is full of gentle seasonal notes. The graphic portrays a Bill of Rights “nativity scene” by artist Jacob Fortin, depicting three of the Founding Fathers and the Statue of Liberty gazing adoringly at a manger containing the Bill of Rights.

FFRF’s ad urges, “Help achieve true ‘Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All,’” by keeping religion separate from government.

The text, urging individuals concerned over threats to true religious liberty to join FFRF, notes: “The First Amendment principle of separation between religion and government has never been in greater jeopardy. Don’t let the Christian Nationalists weaponize religious freedom.”

Comments FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor: “One of the biggest myths we have to surmount in the United States is this misconception that majority rules over matters of faith. The Bill of Rights places individual liberties and freedom of conscience above the fray of tyranny of the majority. And that is something to truly revere — and celebrate!”
