Election Day is here! Please take action to ensure the equal rights of all Nevada residents are enshrined in the state Constitution by voting yes for Nevada Question 1!
The resolution now goes to the voters as Nevada Question 1 on this year’s ballot. The amendment would add a new section to Article I of the Constitution that reads: “[e]quality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry or national origin.” This common sense amendment is crucial to ensuring that all residents of the states are safe from government discrimination.
During a time when the religious right is advocating for more government-sponsored discrimination in the name of “religious freedom” this critical amendment would enshrine in the state Constitution a prohibition on such practices. As of 2021, 25 other states have added similar amendments to their constitutions. It is time Nevada follows suit to show that intolerance and discrimination are not welcome here!
