Colorado is close to becoming the next state to ban gay conversion therapy for minors. We need your help to make sure Gov. Jared Polis signs the bill and outlaws the unethical and ineffective practice.
The bill, HB 19-1129, would protect LGBTQ citizens from the barbaric, pseudo-scientific religious treatment deceitfully called “conversion therapy” by restricting any licensed physician or mental health care professional in the state from engaging in the practice. Additionally, the bill makes the advertising or practice of conversion therapy by a physician or mental health care provider a deceptive trade practice under the “Colorado Consumer Protection Act.”
Conversion therapy is a dangerous and discredited practice aimed at altering a child’s sexual orientation or gender identity, often basing the “therapy” in religious shame and guilt. Many governmental health organizations have denounced the practice as both physically and psychologically traumatizing. Individuals who endure this so-called treatment are at a higher risk for suicide and depression. Read more.
