South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has repeatedly organized prayers before official coronavirus-related press conferences. Please take a few moments to tell the governor to stop exploiting our current public health crisis to promote religion from his elected office.
On March 15, McMaster invited Chaplain Greg Brown to begin a news conference about the COVID-19 pandemic with a Christian prayer. Just a fews days later, he invited Chaplain John Denny to offer a Christian prayer prior to a coronavirus press conference on March 19.
FFRF promptly wrote a letter of complaint to McMaster, calling on him to cease these official prayers. He has since continued to organize these religious invocations at official press events.
As FFRF pointed out to the governor, he represents a diverse population that consists not only of religious individuals but also of atheists and agnostics who do not believe in a deity, much less the power of prayer.
