Tell Gov. McMaster: NO taxpayer money for private schools

The S.C. governor’s office recently announced that of the $48 million of taxpayer funds that Congress entrusted to its discretion for COVID-related education relief as part of the CARES Act, it will be allocating $32 million to unaccountable, private (mostly religious) schools through a program called Safe Access to Flexible Education. At a time when underfunded public schools are grappling with the enormous pressure to teach kids safely this fall, it is unconscionable for South Carolina to divert this taxpayer money to private education.

Read FFRF’s statement for more information.

A circuit court judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking this transfer of money, BUT that could be overturned in court next week. Gov. Henry McMaster must hear the outrage from his constituents and taxpayers about this egregious violation of the separation between religion and government.

Please contact McMaster TODAY and tell him to follow South Carolina law and ensure this money goes only to secular public services.
