50 percent of Americans live in a state with no legal anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people. In such states, LGBTQ individuals can be fired from their jobs, evicted from their homes, denied service from restaurants and stores or refused credit from banks simply because of their identity.
This discrimination is antithetical to the founding American principle of equality under the law. To close the gaps that currently exist in civil rights law, a group of legislators has reintroduced the Equality Act. The Equality Act, also known as S. 1006 in the Senate and H.R. 2282 in the House, amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to “include sex, sexual orientation and gender identity among the prohibited categories of discrimination or segregation in places of public accommodation.”
The Trump Administration continues to undermine discrimination laws under the guise of “religious liberty” and we need your help to fight back against the Religious Right’s attempts to codify their right to discriminate. Please use our automated system to contact your U.S. representatives and senators and ask that they support the Equality Act.
