Please tell Kentucky to pass FGM ban

The Kentucky Legislature is considering a bill that prohibits Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and creates strict penalties for those who perform or aid in the performance of the procedure.

In addition to the traumatic and often lifelong physical and emotional pain this procedure inflicts on women, girls and women who have it are at risk for dangerous infections and cysts. Infants born to women who have had it have a higher risk of dying. The practice has no medical benefit and is based solely on barbaric religious traditions that have no place in modern American society. After a federal ban on Female Genital Mutilation was declared unconstitutional recently, many states are banning the practice, and you can take action today to make sure Kentucky is next on the list.

This bill, S.B. 72, passed the Kentucky Senate and is now headed to be the House Judiciary Committee. Please use our automated system to contact the members of this committee and urge them to pass this important measure.

TAKE ACTION!
