Please tell Hawaii House Judiciary Committee to ban FGM!

This week, the Hawaii Legislature is considering a bill, HB 132, that prohibits performing female genital mutilation (FGM). Offenses would be a class B felony.

In addition to the traumatic and often lifelong physical and emotional pain FGM inflicts on women, girls and women who have FGM are at risk for infections and cysts. Infants born to women who have had FGM have a higher risk of dying. The practice has no medical benefit and is based solely on barbaric religious traditions that have no place in modern American society. Many states are taking action to ban the practice, and you can help add Hawaii to that list by supporting this bipartisan bill.

Please ask the Hawaii House Judiciary Committee to vote yes on HB 132, protecting women and girls from being subjected to FGM in Hawaii.
