Please support AG Catholic Church sexual abuse investigation in Hawaii

The Hawaii Legislature is considering SCR 8, a resolution urging the state attorney general to conduct a statewide investigation into Catholic clergy’s serial sexual abuse of minors, and they need to hear from you.

Recent investigations into the Catholic Church have revealed decades of sexual abuse in dioceses across the country. These reports have also uncovered how the Church has exploited its secretive and imposing structure to allow hundreds of offenders to escape prosecution for decades.

Even the Catholic Church itself has admitted that this is a global problem, with Pope Francis recently referring to a “culture of abuse” inside the Church. However, the pope’s failure to provide any meaningful action to correct the problem confirms what FFRF and many victims’ rights groups have asserted for decades: the methodical, organized sexual abuse in the Catholic Church will not stop until secular authorities intervene.

It is critical that Hawaii follow the lead of states like Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and Illinois and investigate this massive and coordinated abuse of minors throughout the country. The House Committee on Human Services & Homelessness will meet THIS FRIDAY at 9 a.m. in Conference Room 329 of the Capitol building to consider SCR 8, calling for this investigation. Please attend the meeting and register in support of this resolution. Please also use our automated system to contact the members of the committee and ask that they support SCR 8, even if you cannot make the hearing.

TAKE ACTION!
