Tell Gov. Hochul her veto of nonreligious recovery bill was wrong

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently and unjustifiably vetoed S.7313A, the non-religious recovery bill. The bill would have required courts to inform individuals who object to faith-based substance abuse treatment programs of secular, evidence-based alternatives.

She suggested that it would place a burden on judges. This is a misunderstanding of the bill and an example of a problem that doesn’t exist currently. While there are secular programs available, many people do not know they exist. This bill would have given more information to individuals who should have the right to treatment without having religion forced on them.
