Two bills have been introduced in the Florida Legislature that would require all public schools to offer bible classes.
The corresponding bills, HB 341 and SB 746, mandate all Florida public schools offer “an objective study of the Bible, including, but not limited to, a course on the Hebrew Scriptures and Old Testament of the Bible, a course on the New Testament of the Bible, and a course of the Hebrew Scriptures, the Old Testament of the Bible and the New Testament of the Bible.”
The bills were introduced by self-proclaimed exorcist and state Rep. Kim Daniels, a Christian evangelist who has thanked God for slavery and has minimized the horrors of the Holocaust because “the Jews own everything.”
While politicians often claim that these laws are intended to teach the bible in the context of U.S. history, we know their true agenda is to abuse their access to young and impressionable children and indoctrinate them with religious orthodoxy. Besides the obvious bias in requiring classes on one specific set of religious texts and no others, public school bible classes have been tried across the country and have invariably ended up unconstitutionally promoting religion.
