FFRF worked to ensure that Mobile County Public Schools in Alabama would no longer promote Christian holidays via official social media channels.
A community member reported that on April 5, the official Alma Bryant High School Facebook account posted an image celebrating Easter. The post read “Happy Easter” with a prominent Latin cross on it.
“The high school’s promotion of one religion’s holy day on its official social media signals that it favors religion over nonreligion, and, in this case, Christianity over all other faiths,” FFRF Staff Attorney Sammi Lawrence wrote.
After receiving FFRF’s letter, the district’s legal counsel, Frank G. Taylor, confirmed that the law firm “addressed this matter with the school.”
