FFRF removes religious postings from Mo. health clinic (March 10, 2013)

A publicly-funded health clinic in the Kansas City area will no longer post religious plaques and decorations on the walls, after receiving a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

A patient of Swope Health East contacted FFRF after she had to witness religious displays and bible quotes in order to check in, and was exposed to additional religious displays throughout her appointment.

FFRF Staff Attorney Elizabeth Cavell contacted Dave Barker, the CEO and President of Swope Health Services, in a March 5 letter. She requested the health clinic remove the religious displays in order to maintain facilities that are welcoming and respectful of patients' diverse religious views.

On March 10, the concerned patient informed FFRF that the religious postings were removed.
