A School District will no longer promote religious events using official school social media accounts (Jan/Feb 2026)

Georgia —

The Tattnall County School District will no longer allow schools to promote religious events using official school social media accounts after hearing from FFRF.

FFRF learned that on Oct. 1, 2025, the official South Tattnall Elementary School Facebook page encouraged student participation in Bring Your Bible to School Day, which is an annual religious event created by the conservative evangelical organization, Focus on the Family.

FFRF Staff Attorney Sammi Lawrence wrote to the district to see that the constitutional rights of both students and their parents would be protected.

After receiving FFRF’s letter, the district’s legal representative, Reagan Sauls, responded, confirming that the district had acted in error in posting the news to an official district Facebook page. “Although the district does not discriminate against clubs and typically will advertise for any club activity on the Facebook post, that post was contrary to Tattnall County School District’s practice,” Sauls wrote. Sauls also confirmed that “additional procedures and training for staff will be implemented to ensure that the school is meeting all its obligations.”
