Irreverent Rhymes by Yip Harburg to be Republished by FFRF

Ernie Harburg, son of songwriter Yip Harburg, and Dan Barker, Foundation co-president, met recently in the New York offices of the Yip Harburg Foundation. E. Y. (“Yip”) Harburg (1896-1981) wrote such classics as “Over the Rainbow,” “Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?” and “It’s Only a Paper Moon.”

Dan and Ernie discussed the republication by the Foundation of Rhymes for the Irreverent, a collection of Yip’s poems, in very kind collaboration with the Yip Harburg Foundation. Ernie, a retired research scientist who shares his father’s freethought views, is the president of the Yip Harburg Foundation and a new member of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

The book will be published this fall, and details will be reported in future issues. (See Dan’s article about Harburg in the April 2005 Freethought Today.)
