The Child Evangelism Fellowship Group is intervening in the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s most recent lawsuit, filed in Wisconsin state court in April.
The Foundation is suing the Department of Instruction, as well as the school district in Rio, Wis., over the failure of the district to charge rent to the Child Evangelism Fellowship Group.
The Wisconsin Constitution requires that churches and community groups pay rent for after-hour use of classrooms.
The Rio district also sends home flyers for the evangelism group in children’s backpacks and posts week-long notices to publicize the monthly clubs. The evangelism group’s purpose is to evangelize boys and girls “with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The religious-right Liberty Counsel is representing the group and the school district.
