AHA honors FFRF’ers as Humanist Heroines

Longtime FFRF member Meg Bowman (left) and FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor shared a 2010 Humanist Heroine Award from the Feminist Caucus of the American Humanist Association at the AHA’s annual convention in San Jose, Calif. in early June. The pair had served jointly and separately as co-chairs of the Feminist Caucus for many years. Their freethinking and feminist achievements were recognized.

Meg, professor emerita of sociology, is a feminist author, activist and civil rights pioneer, and works with feminist and humanist charities. Annie Laurie, author of two books dealing with women and religion, is a co-founder of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and serves on the board of the Women’s Medical Fund, which has helped well over 16,000 women without means pay for abortion care. Meg gave a rousing feminist talk, and Annie Laurie presented the inside story on FFRF’s National Day of Prayer victory.
