Psalm 23:4 piques most online interest

According to a Jan. 3 story in The Christian Post, out of nearly 7 million visits last year to King James Bible Online, the most-viewed bible verse was Psalm 23:4 ā€” ā€œYea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.ā€

No. 2 was Philippians 4:13 ā€” ā€œI can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.ā€

Coming in third was the New Testamentā€™s John 3:16 ā€” ā€œFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.ā€

The rest of the top 10:

ā€‚. Genesis 1:1 ā€” ā€œIn the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.ā€

ā€‚. 1 Corinthians 13:11 ā€” ā€œWhen I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.ā€

ā€‚. 2 Chronicles 7:14 ā€” ā€œIf my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.ā€

ā€‚. Jeremiah 29:11 ā€” ā€œFor I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.ā€

ā€‚. Ephesians 6:12 ā€” ā€œFor we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.ā€

ā€‚. 2 Timothy 1:7 ā€” ā€œFor God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.ā€

10. Genesis 1:2 ā€” ā€œAnd the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.ā€

Editorā€™s note: The website shipoffools.com, which pokes fun at Christianity, asked readers in 2009 to submit their favorite ā€œworstā€ bible verses in a project called Chapter & Worse.

No. 1: St. Paulā€™s advice in 1 Timothy 2:12, in which he says: ā€œBut I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.ā€
