In Their Own Words

I had a habit of praying every night before I go to bed. I pray all the time now. Because I’ve got a lot of stuff on my plate, and I need guidance all the time. This is something where you just hope that you are aligning your work with His purposes.

My Faith and Neighborhood Initiatives Director, Joshua DuBois, he has a devotional that he sends to me on my BlackBerry each day. That’s how I start my morning. You know, he’s got a passage, Scripture, in some cases quotes from other faiths to reflect on.

Dissenter: Free Pass To Religious Schools

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled 4-3 on July 21 to dismiss a suit by a Catholic school lay teacher who claimed she was downsized due to age discrimination.

Courts in the past have generally only exempted clergy from fair employment laws, but the ruling changes that standard. Dissenting Justice Patrick Crooks said the ruling “extends a free pass to religious schools to discriminate against their lay employees.”

“This is all the more reason why vouchers to religious schools are inadvisable,” said Annie Laurie Gaylor, Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president.
