Annenberg was pilot, noted lawyer
FFRF Gung-Ho Member Ted Annenberg, 88, died of stomach cancer on Oct. 3, 2016, at his home in New York City. Ted attended New York Military Academy, then New York University, prior to receiving an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Upon graduation, he reported to Pensacola for flight training. He earned his wings in 1951, and was based in Japan and patrolled the Korean waters. He also served in the Philippines, where he patrolled the Formosa Straits.After resigning his commission in 1955, Ted attended Columbia University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He served in the legal department of several corporations, including Union Camp Corporation and Standard Brands. Ted retired in 1993 as vice president and general counsel of F.W. Woolworth Company. After retirement, Ted served as an American Bar Association arbitrator and volunteered as a small-claims court arbitrator in New York City.
He volunteered for a number of years teaching reading and math to adults at Literacy Partners, and as a mediator at the Better Business Bureau. He is survived by Jan, his wife of 67 years; his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Krista; and grandsons Alex and Nicholas.
