Chisholm Public Schools in Kansas will no longer permit teacher-led prayer and has terminated an elementary school bible class thanks to objections from FFRF.
A student notified FFRF that a history teacher at the high school led all the students in praying for a different teacher who had fallen ill.
FFRF also noticed a fourth-grade teacher listing a bible class on his schedule. Seidel asserted, āThese bible classes are unconstitutional. Public schools may not provide religious instructionā¦. The district may not take away from instructional time to indoctrinate students in Christian dogma.ā
On June 7, FFRF received a response admitting that the prayer āwas not handled appropriately.ā The district said it has discontinued the class āto prevent any further confusion.ā
