The Freedom From Religion Foundation has a lot to offer at the Reason Rally this Saturday in Washington, D.C. If you’re planning to attend, read on. If not, look for photo coverage in Freethought Today’s June/July issue.
FFRF is part of a coalition sponsoring the June 4 rally for which secular-minded folks are gathering in the nation’s capital to celebrate and make their presence felt. The world’s largest gathering of nonbelievers will get to hear some of the most well-known freethinkers in the country, including Bill Nye, Penn Jillette, James Randi, Julia Sweeney and secular activists such as FFRF’s own Annie Laurie Gaylor and Dan Barker.
Several of us at FFRF will be there. We hope that you will come by and see what we have to offer during this exciting event. We will have booths set up both in the exhibition and the donation tents. Be sure to visit us to say “hi” and for free swag at the exhibit table, including a fan saying “fan of reason,” FFRF-inscribed sunglasses, stickers and a placard that reads “I’m Secular & I Vote” on one side and “Unabashed Atheist (Not Afraid of Burning in Hell)” on the other. FFRF is already making its presence felt in the capital with a bunch of different ads centered around the city’s transportation system. People are riding to work in Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission commuter buses wrapped with a giant message stating, “I’m an Atheist and I Vote.” City residents driving or riding Capital BikeShare are being greeted by illuminated kiosk ads featuring young, millennial atheist voters. The FFRF ad campaign—aimed at spotlighting the voting power of the nonreligious—is running through June 6. Do keep an eye out while you’re in Washington, D.C.
There’s plenty to do in events organized in conjunction with the Reason Rally. If you’re in the mood for some lightheartedness, you can attend the Crystal City Pre-Rally Party & Comedy Show. A limited number of standing-room-only tickets are available for $10.
Or if you want to shake a leg, you can head to one of the two after-parties beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday at either the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill Ballroom or the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Ballroom for just $25. There will be music and dance, and a cash bar and concessions for purchase, plus a chance to buy merchandise from the Reason Rally vendors, including FFRF at the Capitol Ballroom.
And on the day after the Reason Rally, there is a follow-up event that you don’t want to miss. On Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can attend the Reason Rally Mini-Convention for $199. With the theme “Live better. Help often. Wonder more,” it’s a one-day conference with activists, inspiring speakers and leaders of the secular, freethought and atheist movement. We’ll be there on this day, too. Look for FFRF legal staff at a plenary legal panel Sunday, our legal workshop, Dan and Annie Laurie at another workshop, and our table with books, T-shirts and bumper stickers for sale.
