Principal’s office no place for bible quotes, says FFRF (July 19, 2013)

The Freedom From Religion Foundation ensured an elementary school in San Bernardino, Calif., removed a framed bible quote prominently displayed in the principal’s office.

FFRF Staff Attorney Andrew Seidel sent a June 26 letter to San Bernardino City Unified School District Superintendent outlining why the religious quote must be removed.

He wrote that displaying a quote from the Christian bible violates Riley Elementary School’s constitutional obligation to remain neutral toward religion.

“Considering the very young age of the students, concern over coercive religious displays should be especially high in elementary schools like Riley,” Seidel wrote.

Assistant Superintendent Kennon Mitchell, Ph.D., responded on July 19 that the sign containing the bible quote was removed.
