URGENT! Tell your rep to support Thomas Paine memorial at tomorrow’s hearing

Your member of Congress is on a subcommittee that will consider an excellent bill tomorrow morning. Please take a moment to send an email urging support for the bill at tomorrow’s hearing.

The House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands will meet tomorrow to consider multiple bills, including HR 6720, a bill to memorialize Thomas Paine, America’s “forgotten Founder,” in Washington, D.C. A memorial to Paine in D.C. is long overdue, and is being championed by Rep. Jamie Raskin, co-chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus.

This noncontroversial bill is one that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle can unite over. Without Paine, the United States of America would not exist. His writings in Common Sense and Crisis made the case for American independence and sparked the American Revolution. To freethinkers he is revered as the author of The Age of Reason, to freedom lovers everywhere for proclaiming “the world is my country” and for working to advance freedom, equality and democracy.

Please take a moment to contact your representative right away to ask for support for this bill at tomorrow morning’s hearing. Keep an eye on FFRF’s social media for updates on this exciting development.
