Please oppose New Hampshire anti-trans bill

The New Hampshire Legislature is considering a harmful anti-trans bill — and we need your help to stop it.

Tomorrow, the N.H. Senate Committee on Education and Workforce Development will review S.B. 480, which would bar trans girls from participating on their school’s women athletic teams.

The marginalization of trans athletes is rooted in archaic gender stereotypes based on false understanding of strength, biology, and the proper gender roles for two binary genders. There is a long legacy of this troubling sex discrimination in athletics. Myths, such as the idea that physical exertion would harm women’s reproductive systems or that women were inherently inferior athletes, were historically used to “protect” women out of participation in entire fields, including marathon racing and contact sports. These myths, of course, are closely tied to the long history of religion treating women as inherently inferior to men.

This is yet another example of the infiltration of entrenched religious dogma into our secular law. Please urge the members of the Senate Committee on Education and Workforce Development to vote no on this discriminatory policy. If you are able, please attend the committee hearing and speak in opposition to this bill.
