The New York Legislature is considering a good bill that would increase regulations governing so-called “crisis pregnancy centers.”
If passed, Senate Bill S2264 would require any Crisis Pregnancy Center to promptly disclose that it is not a licensed medical provider and will not provide abortions or birth control or make a referral for these services.
Crisis Pregnancy Centers are anti-science clinics that disseminate erroneous and misleading information about abortions to dissuade women from accessing one. Some women are led to believe that they are seeing a licensed medical provider when they are, in fact, being peddled anti-abortion propaganda by religious charlatans. Abortion is a time-sensitive issue, and no time should be delayed accessing the necessary care. These centers are almost exclusively backed by religious groups and are intended to steer women away from accessing reproductive care in order to carry out the group’s own dogmatic religious agenda.
This measure is an imperative clampdown on fallacious, anti-women propaganda, and your New York legislators need to hear your support.
