Scott Rosien of San Francisco died at his home on Nov. 23, 2015, at the age of 68 due to prostate cancer.
He was born May 4, 1947, in Los Angeles. An attorney by training, Rosien was also a master contractor and interior decorator for more than 40 years. He visited more than 40 countries on four continents. During his travels, he pursued his love of vintage travel and industrial posters, 1940s and 1950s pottery, modernist furniture and Middle Eastern rugs and textiles. Rosien was an insatiable reader and a food aficionado.
He attended UC-Berkeley in 1966-67 and completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA. He obtained his law degree from Hastings Law School in San Francisco. He then worked in Washington, D.C., in the legal publishing business, then with the Social Security Administration in Fresno.
According to his obituary in the Los Angeles Times, “He held strong opinions, had no room for the foolish or irrational and always kept allegiance to his own sturdy ways of thinking. He could be sardonic — even acerbic — though never at anyone’s expense, only at the absurdities of life.”
FFRF is most touched and grateful that Rosien, who was not an active member at the time of his death, remembered FFRF with a bequest of $50,997.26, which was received in March 2017.
