Compiled by Sarah Braasch
Representative Terry Moulton, Chippewa Falls, 68th Assembly District on 7/10/07, 11/06/07, and 05/28/08:
“What God is it that I petition this day? The God of the Bible. The God who gave Moses the Ten Commandments, which are the very basis of our law. And, the God who, when Moses asked him, “Who should I tell the people you are?” he said, “Tell them I am who I am. I am the Lord, God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. This is my name forever. This is how I shall be remembered from generation to generation.” He’s also the God who parted the Red Sea.”
“Some would say that the Bible is simply a collection of stories; however, archaeological discoveries have shown the historical accuracy of the Bible and proven the accuracy of the Word of God.”
“Throughout the Old Testament, nations who followed the Lord God’s ways were blessed and thrived and prospered. Nations that did not went into ruins and perished.”
“If you open up the Bible, at the very center of the Bible, in Psalms 1:18, are these words, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
“Come, Holy Spirit of God, and fill this place today. Jesus, in your name, and by the power of your spirit, I come against the Evil One. And, I ask that he be cast from this place, this day.”
“Lord God, I ask all these things in my Lord and Savior’s name, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
“And, Lord, I ask all of these things, in the name of my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
“In the center of the Bible, the very center of the Bible, Psalms 1:18, verse 8, it says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”
“And, that is my prayer this morning for all of us, that we will trust in the Lord, and lean on him, and not our own understanding.”
“Let the love of Christ be evident in all that we set our hands to today. Come, Holy Spirit, fill this place now and forever more.”
“In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.”

Representative Sheryl Albers — R — Reedsburg — 50th Assembly District, on 10 24 07:
“Now, according to Pope John Paul the 2nd, democracy fundamentally is a system. He describes it as a means, not an end. And, I agree. Moral value depends on conformity to the, conformity of moral law, to which it, like every other form of human behavior, must be subject, and the value of democracy stands or falls within the values which it embodies and promotes. According to First Timothy 2 verse 2, the real purpose of civil law is to guarantee an ordered social existence in true justice, so that all may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. So, man made laws, which are contrary to reason, become unjust. On that basis, laws we might make, if contrary to natural law, are a corruption of the law.”
“Gracious Lord, in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, accept these gifts. Accept the gifts of those who allow your spirit to be their light and guide.”
Representative Eugene Hahn, R, Cambria, 47th District, on 10 30 07 and on 03 11 08:
“All this we pray in the name of our Lord. Amen.”
“This Sunday, I intend to enjoy corned beef and cabbage, and Saint Patty’s Day is the next day. So, I asked my staffer, if he could possibly get me an Irish prayer.”
“May those who love us, love us. And, those who don’t love us, may God turn their hearts. And, if he doesn’t turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles, so we’ll know them by their limping.”
“Oh God, Our Judge, save us from holding a faith that cripples the future, and makes a better tomorrow an impossibility. So, Oh God, Our Father, let our fears be banished.”
“All this in the name of the Great Shepherd of us all, thy son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
Representative Carol Owens, 53rd Assembly District, R, Oshkosh, on 12 11 07 and 03 12 08:
“I’ve chosen a little verse, which I’ve always done, before we pray. It’s from Proverbs. Proverbs is full of good advice.”
“We place our trust in you and offer our prayer in his holy name. Amen.”
“Sometimes I read a Bible verse, but, this morning, I chose a song, written by the greatest Psalmist of all time, King David. It fits many religions, and, even if you’re not religious, it fits. It is: “Create in me a clean heart, Oh Lord, and renew a bright spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence and take not your Holy Spirit from me.”
Representative Daniel LeMahieu, R, Oostburg, 59th District, on 01 15 08:
“The Proverbs give us a lot of life lessons, and a lot of, a lot of wisdom that we can take from it, and I’d just like to read just a couple of verses from Proverbs 3.”
“Give us the wisdom of Solomon, as he has given us so much wisdom in the Proverbs.”
“And it reminds me of some words that were sung in our church recently.”
“And, send us your son, to die on the cross, to, to cover our sins, and the penalty of our sins.”
“We just thank you for that. And, it’s in the name of your son that we bring these prayers before you, that we bring our petitions before you, that we ask for the wisdom that you can only give us.”
“And it’s in his name we pray. Amen.”
Representative John Townsend, R, Fond du Lac, 52nd Assembly District, on 02 28 08:
“God, Creator of the universe. You have revealed in your Word that rules and authority and government are in keeping with your order. Help us mindful of the sacred trust which you have committed to our care of using us as officers of the state to carry out your plans.”
“God, we have just recently celebrated President’s Day. Remind us to pray for our President that he will be guided by you to make wise and sound decisions. That he will have courage and that he will be strong in his faith.”
