The Freedom From Religion Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of FFRF Action Fund Inc., which will focus on lobbying and advocacy efforts to promote the rights of nonbelievers and the separation between state and church.
FFRF Action Fund is organized as a 501(c)(4) entity, and will be able to engage in lobbying and political activities that are not permitted by 501(c)(3) groups, such as FFRF. FFRF Action Fund will push for issues such as the repeal of discriminatory religious exemptions, the protection of reproductive rights, and the defense of public education.
As true “values voters,” our secular constituency continually sees our values being stifled and outvoted, even though there are more “Nones” (religiously unaffiliated) than politically conservative evangelicals. As FFRF continues its vital legal and educational endeavors to end state/church violations and educate the public about nontheism, FFRF Action Fund will be free to take strong and unapologetic positions on legislative issues, as well as do some electoral work, including the periodical endorsement of candidates.
As a 501(c)(4) organization, FFRF Action Fund will help to preserve the constitutional principle of separation between state and church, to advocate for the rights and views of nonbelievers and to conduct research and publicize the views of elected officials concerning religious liberty issues.
“Our secular democracy and public schools — as well as individual liberties such as abortion rights and LGBTQ rights — have never been under greater attack,” says FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor, who will serve as FFRF Action Fund president. “We’re tremendously excited about FFRF Action Fund taking our advocacy to the next level.”
