FFRF joins the ranks at secular festival

Dan Barker to speak at Rock Beyond Belief

Freedom From Religion Foundation Co-President Dan Barker will appear at this Saturday's Rock Beyond Belief event in Fort Bragg, N.C.

Barker is set take the stage at 6:45 p.m. on March 31.

The evangelical pastor turned atheist will entertain the crowd with a special selection of his popular freethought songs. He will also discuss state/church entanglement and FFRF's legal battle over religion in government.

"I just lost faith in faith," Barker says of theism. He is the author of Losing Faith in Faith and Godless. Barker is also an accomplished pianist and composer.

Rock Beyond Belief is a freethought festival that was created to counter Rock the Fort, a Christian concert held at the base. It is organized by Sgt. Justin Griffith, an atheist stationed at Fort Bragg.

Fort Bragg Religious Support Office and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association established Rock the Fort in 2010 with the stated purpose of converting as many soldiers, family members and civilians to Christianity.

Barker joins the ranks of other speakers including Richard Dawkins, Mikey Weinstein, Hemant Mehta and several musicians.

FFRF, along with its Raleigh chapter, the Triangle Freethought Society will have a booth at the event with books, t-shirts and free literature.
