(MADISON, WIS.) "Hello all you godless infidels, out-of-the-closet atheists and happy heathens!"
That line will greet listeners Saturday to the nation's first-ever national broadcast of a freethought radio program, when the Freedom From Religion Foundation's weekly show "from the secular point of view" out of Madison, Wis., will broadcast over Air America Radio for the first time.
The first guest on Freethought Radio's national debut Sat., Oct. 6, will be Christopher Hitchens, author of the bestselling book, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.
The hour-long program, hosted by Foundation co-presidents Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor, has been airing on Air America's Madison affiliate since April 2006 and podcasting from ffrf.org/radio/.
"This is radio for the rest of us," says Dan, who bills himself on the show as "your friendly neighborhood atheist."
"Freethought Radio offers irreverent views, news, music and interviews," adds Annie Laurie. The show includes a regular segment known as "Theocracy Alert," interviews and music.
"You can turn on the radio or TV 24/7 to be preached at. This is one hour a week of the public airwaves that offers an alternative," Annie Laurie said.

Freethought Radio will stream live over Air America. In most locations, the show will air Saturdays, 1-2 p.m. Eastern. Check your local listing to confirm times.
