Blackout secular rally convenes Saturday, July 27 in New York City

The first outdoor rally/celebration predominantely featuring nontheists of color takes place this Saturday, July 27 at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, New York City, from 1:30 to 6 p.m., The free and historic event is hosted by Black Atheists of America and Black Non-Believers.

Keynote speaker is Jeremiah Camara, author of "Holy Lockdown" and "The New Doubting Thomas." The celebration will include musicians, speakers and poets showcasing both the growing numbers of secular minorities and pro-secular advocates who may not be well-known outside the African-American community.

Ayanna Watson, president of Black Atheists of America, will speak and Mandisa Thomas, President of Black nonbelievers, will sing. Thomas was interviewed on Freethought Radio last weekend. Download the podcast here.

Other speakers include: MC Brooks, Victor Harris Jr., AJ Johnson and Khafre Zimmerman.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation gave a $500 contribution toward the rally.
