Action Alert

Keep “In God We Trust” out of Oklahoma public schools!

Act TODAY to tell Oklahoma lawmakers to vote against a bill that would put “In God We Trust” in every public school classroom.

Earlier this month we asked you to oppose Oklahoma’s SB 1016, a bill that would require every school board in the state to place the phrase “In God We Trust” in classrooms and libraries of every public school building. Sadly, the bill passed out of the state Senate unanimously.

However, the House Rules Committee now has an opportunity to kill this theocratic bill. Please reach out to the eleven members of this committee and urge them to oppose SB 1016.

Even though “In God We Trust” is, disgracefully, the national motto, there is no question of this bill’s religious intent. While many are calling for real-world solutions to protect public schools from real-world dangers, this bill reflects the views of many lawmakers that their god will solve these problems.

It is particularly telling that this bill does not require public schools to display the state motto, Labor Omnia Vincit, which means “Work Conquers All.” Oklahoma lawmakers apparently want to tell students to pray for good grades rather than relying on hard work and study.

Please take action TODAY to oppose this attempt to insert religion into Oklahoma public schools. Please call or email the members of the House Rules Committee and urge them to vote against SB 1016. Learn more about this bill.
