Meet a Member: Juan Oliver-Colom

Name: Juan Oliver-Colom.

Where I live: San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Where and when I was born: On Feb. 2, 1939, in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, a very small town in the center of the island.

Family: My wife, four daughters, four grandsons, two granddaughters and four female dachshunds.

Education: Bachelor of business administration/accounting major, University of Puerto Rico-RĆ­o Piedras; juris doctor, UPR Law School; (informal) la Escuela de la Vida (the School of Hard Knocks).

Occupation: Management consultant.

Military service: Puerto Rico Air National Guard 1960-67.

How I got where I am today: By having many birthdays.

Where Iā€™m headed: Arenā€™t we all?

Person in history I admire: Galileo Galilei.

These are a few of my favorite things: Cameras, jazz CDs, crossword puzzles, Spain, Paris, books.

These are not: Injustices, proselytizing by priests, pastors and Jehovahā€™s Witnesses.

How long Iā€™ve been a freethinker: Since about 1952, although I didnā€™t realize I was one until my granddad on my motherā€™s side explained the term and why he was one. That was in the late ā€™50s of the past century.

Why Iā€™m a freethinker: I think; therefore I am.

Best way I promote freethought: Translating relevant freethought literature to Spanish, my native language.
